Atonement[]
Debuted in the Player's Handbook as a cleric spell.
Level: 5 | School: Abjuration |
Components: V, S, M (holy symbol, burning incense, prayer object such as beads, wheel, or book) | |
Range: Touch | Casting Time: 1 turn |
Duration: Permanent | Saving Throw: None |
Target: Creature touched |
Removes the effects of magical alignment change and allows the truly repentant to atone for past misdeeds -- knowing and wilful violation of an alignment cannot be undone by this spell.
DM's Advice: You assume the role of the deity who must judge the atonment. Sincerity might allow for an atonement with little or no sacrifice, and the overall nature of the deity might help guide what sacrifice may be necessary (a few coins for the poor, or a quest for a relic, or somesuch). Those who are not as sincere may have immense or nearly impossible quest ("bring the high priest of an enemy god and all of their fellow priests to me as a captive sacrifice").
