Allows the caster to see at a distance, behind doors or around corners.

Original D&D Edit

The spell first appeared in Men & Magic, for the magic-user.

  • Spell Level 3
  • Duration 12 turns
  • Range 6"

The caster can see as if standing at any point in range. It will penetrate up to about 2' of solid rock, but a thin coating of lead will block it.

The caster blinks in and out of the material plane

AD&DEdit

Clairvoyance Edit

Debuted in the Player's Handbook as a magic-user spell.

Level: 3 School: Divination
Components: V, S, M (a pinch of a poweded pineal gland from a humanoid creature)
Range: Special Casting Time: 3 segments
Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: None
Area: within sight range of a location familiar to the caster

The caster sees in their mind as if they are at some other location. The location can be any distance from the caster (as long as it is on the same plane), but it must be familiar or obvious to the caster. The caster can only see as their normal visual senses allow, and darkness limits all forms of sight to 1" from the location at most. The spell can be foiled by metal sheeting or certain magical protections.
