The target creature hears every sound echoed and reverberated in their mind, deafening them and incapacitating them.

Echoes | |
---|---|
Spell Level: 2 | Rarity: Very Rare |
Schools: Illusion/Phantasm, Song | |
Components: V, S, M (a tin gong or cymbal, struck when the spell is cast) | |
Range: 30 yds + 10 yds/lv | Casting Time: 3 |
Duration: 2 rds/level | Saving Throw: Halves |
Target: 1 creature |
Every sound that the target hears for the duration echoes loudly in their mind, making it difficult to pick out individual sounds or words.
The constant distraction imposes a 2-point penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, and armor class (or a 1-point penalty if the target makes a save vs. spell). A silence or deafness spell ends the effect (but also causes the target to be unable to hear).
Various targets may react to this spell differently. A creature with especially keen hearing may be debilitated by the spell, cowering with their hands over their ears, or retreating to a quiet place.
