Flying squirrels are small arboreal mammals that dwell in forests and jungles, scurrying acrobatically in the canopy and leaping from tree to tree. They are more properly called "gliding" squirrels, as they use a flap of skin to add distance to their their phenomenal leaps between trees. These membranes allow them to functionaly glide 5 ft. for every 1 ft. of height they drop. Their main use to adventurers is as familiars or messengers, or as a form that a druid may take -- perhaps especially useful in scouting or escape. Forest gnomes can speak with flying squirrels, and a swarm of flying squirrels may be dangerous.
