Creates a semi-illusory suit of plate armor.

AD&D 2eEdit

Phantom ArmorEdit

Spell Level: 1 Rarity: Uncommon
Schools: Alteration, Illusion
Components: V, S, M (a small plate of mithral, worth 10 gp)
Range: Touch Casting Time: 1 round
Duration: Until negated Saving Throw: None
Target: Creature touched

The touched creature is covered in illusory plate mail. the spell cannot be used on a creature already benefitting from any sort of magical protection. The armor provides protection equal to plate mail (+7 / AC 3) as long as it is believed to exist. A creature with reason to disbelieve can make a saving throw vs. spell that, if successful, entirely negates the illusion's benefit. The spell can also be negated by dispelling or similar effects.

While providing protection, the spell also absorbs some damage - if an attack hits the target, the damage is reduced by 1 point. Once the armor has prevented 1 point of damage per caster level, the armor melts away. The spell also provides a +1 bonus to saving throws that would benefit from armor while it is active.

The illusory armor doesn't reduce the character's speed or hinder their movement at all, and it isn't damaged by attack forms that damage armor (such as a rust monster's attack). Ignoring these facets may trigger disbelief on behalf of those viewing it.
