A gray, teardrop-shaped ball of energy surrounded by a faerie-fire like radience of any color the caster desires appears behind the caster and rushes toward any target the caster can see, at a movement rate of 27. The ball seems to appear from a great distance and grow to a great size, and it follows its target if the target moves to escape it (even if they teleport or disappear from view). If the target moves to another plane, the bolt rebounds back onto the caster instead. If the ball cannot catch its target in the round of casting, it persists for an additional round in pursuit, but the fades harmlessly.

The bolt can be stopped by cover (including another creature). While the bolt persists, it can be stopped by magical barriers, but cannot be affected otherwise by spells or attacks. Anyone with cause to doubt this ability can disbelieve the illusion with a successful saving throw vs. spell, revealing it to only be semi-real. When it hits, it deals 1d8 damage, +1 point of damage per caster level, and forces the target to make a Strength check to avoid being knocked down (and a Dexterity check to protect any exposed, fragile items). A character who recognizes it as an illusion takes half damage, but is still struck with enough shadow-stuff to force the ability checks.
