Shadow Monsters Edit

Introduced in The Strategic Review 1-4, along with the Illusionist. Dragon Magazine #12 maintained this spell on the Illusionist list.

  • Spell Level 4

Creates monsters that have 1/5 the HD of the original. The AC of the creatures is 9, and they only do one dice of damage upon hitting. The creatures do not get special abilities (such as turning to stone, draining life, or breath weapons) unless the the target believes the illusion. A number of HD of shadow monsters is created equal to the caster's level. The creatures take double damage from silver.

Demi-Shadow Monsters Edit

Creates monsters that have 2/5 the HD of the original. The AC of the creatures is 8, and they only do one dice of damage upon hitting. The creatures do not get special abilities (such as turning to stone, draining life, or breath weapons) unless the the target believes the illusion. A number of HD of shadow monsters is created equal to 1.5 times the caster's level. The creatures take double damage from silver.

Dragon Magazine #1 introduced this spell to the Illusionist spell list.

  • Spell Level 6

Creates illusory monsters that have 3/5 the HD of the original. The AC of the creatures is 7, and they only do one dice of damage upon hitting. The creatures do not get special abilities (such as turning to stone, draining life, or breath weapons) unless the the target believes the illusion. A number of HD of shadow monsters is created equal to twice the caster's level. The creatures take double damage from silver.
