AD&DEdit

Aerial Servant Edit

Debuted in the Player's Handbook as a cleric spell.

Level: 6 School: Conjuration/Summoning
Components: V, S
Range: 1" Casting Time: 9 segments
Duration: 1 day/level Saving Throw: None
Effect: Conjures one Aerial Servant

An aerial servant is conjured up by the spell. The creature is hostile to the spellcaster and immediately attacks them unless they are protected by a protection from evil spell, they are within a magic circle, thaumaturgic triangle, or pentagram, or the caster presents their holy symbol or a religious artifact to control the creature. If the creature slays the caster, they simply return from whence they came.

The aerial servant can be commanded to do the caster's bidding. It will not fight, but it will retrieve some person or object on behalf of the caster, and return it to them. If the servant is prevented from accomplishing its goal, it may go mad and attack the caster. If the target is a creature, the aerial servant gains surprise automatically, and can attack 4 times before initiative is rolled. If the target can see invisible creatures, roll 1d6-2 for how many attacks the aerial servant gets. Aerial servants attack simply by grabbing the target and grappling (roll hit dice of the aerial servant and the target if the target does not have a strength score to find out which is stronger).

Once the aerial servant has returned with its designated retreival, the aerial servant returns to its home once more. It also returns if it is dispelled, if the duration lapses, if the caster is killed, or if the caster releases it.
